Ghostly images of abandoned villas in Da Lat’s must-visist lake area

A series of villas, the very first project built inside the popular Tuyen Lam Lake national tourist area of Da Lat City in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong, have turned into an eerie and deserted ghost town after years of abandonment.
The villa compound is situated amid a pine forest at the heart of the Tuyen Lam Lake tourist area, boasting an exquisite location with a backdrop of mountains and a view overlooking the scenic lake.
The 15 villas were built along a road winding through the tourist zone in part of a project that was licensed over 15 years ago.

HaCo JSC commenced construction at the project in 2007 and has left it unfinished for several years, according to the management board of the lake.
The authorities have not identified the cause for the cessation of the construction.

When Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s reporter visited the villas earlier this month, they remained in an incomplete state, with the structural framework still intact.
Due to prolonged neglect, the structures have suffered from significant deterioration, marked by numerous cracks and leaks.

Surrounding the villas is an overgrowth of thriving weeds.
The walls facing the street have been smeared by sprayed graffiti featuring erratic and uneven figures.

Covering an area of 2,944 hectares, including a water surface of 350 hectares, Tuyen Lam Lake and its surroundings were recognized as a national tourism zone in 2017 and are considered as one of the must-visit places in Da Lat.
The lake is positioned approximately six kilometers to the south of Da Lat City.

The area surrounding the lake enjoys a refreshing climate, offering a tranquil environment with a rich variety of natural landscapes, including forests, hills, lakes, streams, and waterfalls, all of which are highly appealing to tourists.
Tourism services had been put into operation at the lake long before that, in 2004.

A total of 39 investors have implemented tourism service projects at a cost of VND9.6 trillion (US$392.5 million) within Tuyen Lam Lake, but only 15 have been completed, according to Nguyen Quoc Tuyen, director of the management board of the lake.
