The Ho Chi Minh City Night Run Eximbank 2024 will take place on May 17-19 in the southern Vietnamese metropolis with the participation of nearly 5,000 runners from 30 countries and territories, according to a press conference held on Monday.
The number is well above the 1,700 and 3,000 participants in the two previous editions of the event.
The third Ho Chi Minh City Night Run Eximbank will be jointly held by the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation, the municipal Labor Culture Palace, and Unique Events & Media with the direction of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
They organize the competition to commemorate the 134th birthday anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19,1980 – May 19, 2024) and encourage residents to regularly exercise and play sports to improve their health and quality of life.
The event will also help promote the image of a dynamic Ho Chi Minh City at night to tourists and foreigners who are living and working in the city.
The race will include three distances: five, 10, and 21 kilometers.

Among the runners who have put their names down for the race are well-known Vietnamese athletes Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Pham Tien San, and Khuat Phuong Anh.
The organizers will offer many prizes to individual runners, couples, and teams of different age groups to attract more people to take part in the race and running movement as a whole, said Nguyen Khoa Vinh, a member of the organizing board.
The event will include many activities to connect runners, such as a warm-up run called 'Shake Out Run,' dialogues centered around 'Together We Run' and 'Together We Share' messages to share knowledge and experience in running, and the singing program 'Runner's Show.'
The night run will not only be a sports event but also a cultural fest with a highlight being 'Saigon Corner,' an area featuring Ho Chi Minh City snacks.
At the press briefing, former deputy director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Mai Ba Hung said the competition is a signature of Ho Chi Minh City, a sleepless and dynamic city in Vietnam.
