A new express boat service will begin operations on March 28, connecting Saigon Port in District 4 to Con Dao Island off the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works has approved the waterway transport operation, aiming to provide a more convenient travel option for visitors heading to the island.
Thanh Thanh Phat Passenger Transport Company will operate the route, with a trip per day, using the Phu Quy speedboat, which has a capacity of 374 passengers.
The speedboat will depart from Saigon Port at 7:00 am, with the return trip leaving from Ben Dam Port or Con Dao Passenger Port at 11:30 am.
To ensure smooth and safe operations, the department has outlined strict guidelines, including adherence to speed limits, fire prevention measures, and environmental regulations.
The operator was also required to report any schedule changes that may affect passengers.
The upcoming launch follows an earlier attempt to establish an express boat route between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao Island in May 2024.
That service, run by Phu Quoc Express JSC, was discontinued after just two months of its operation, primarily due to passenger difficulties accessing Hiep Phuoc Port in Nha Be District, which is located more than 20 kilometers from downtown Ho Chi Minh City.
Many travelers also struggled to find transport services back to the city center after their return.
