Quilling Cards Vietnam Company in Ho Chi Minh City, which specializes in quilling greeting cards, was awarded a Guinness World Record on Friday for making the world's largest quilling painting.

Using paper quilling tools, hundred of artisans from the company meticulously imitated Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh's iconic painting The Starry Night.

This one-of-a-kind work of art measures up to 26.73 square meters and is composed of tens of thousands of multicolored paper strips.

From conception to completion, this magnificent quilling painting took only two months and one day.

In addition, with 300 workers and artisans, the company also set another Guinness World Record for organizing the largest gathering of people making cards together.

At the award ceremony, a representative from Guinness World Records witnessed, recorded, and officially confirmed the figures before awarding two certificates to the Quilling Cards Vietnam Company.

The representative of Guinness World Records praised Vietnamese artisans for their efforts and congratulated the company on being inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Talking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Nguyen Pham Thi Diem Huong, director of Quilling Cards Vietnam Company, shared that being certified by Guinness World Records is the facility's pride after ten years of operation.

As the criteria for setting the record are so stringent, this is also a well-deserved acknowledgement of the intelligence and ingenuity of Vietnamese artisans.

Especially, there were deaf-mute people among the participating artisans.

According to Huong, the company will display the record-breaking painting at a museum fair in Boston, U.S., from May 18 to 22.

Then, museums will compete for the right to exhibit this work.

Following the display duration, the company will sell the artwork to raise funds for charity and to construct a school for disabled children in Vietnam.

Huong claims that the art of quilling originated in ancient Egypt, not Vietnam.

Quilling is still being passed down in many parts of the world, but only a few people organize themselves into a professional production company like Quilling Cards Vietnam.

After ten years of operation, Quilling Cards Vietnam has exported approximately 15 million cards to Asian, European, and American markets.
