A Vietnamese student studying in the U.S. has recently gained public attention thanks to his patriotic clip that encourages people to exercise in order to be strong enough to protect their country. Eighteen-year-old Bill Nguyen, or Nguyen Duc Dung, decided to make the clip “Khoe de bao ve to quoc” (Stay Healthy to Protect Our Country) to show both his patriotism and his strong passion for exercise. Also known as “Mr. Fitness,” the student who was born in Hanoi and has spent more than four years studying in the U.S. said he realized his profound love for fitness at the age of nine. “My family wants me to become a businessman while I just kept following my passion for fitness. I went to the U.S. when I was only 14 years old and besides studying, I played many sports including wrestling, soccer, baseball, swimming, weightlifting, and rugby,” Bill shared on his Facebook page. The student said he follows strict dietary rules to keep his body in good shape: “I usually develop my detailed diet plan three to four months in advance. My daily intake of calories, protein, fat and other substances are really important to me.” “My parents finally support my passion now that they see my efforts and achievements,” Bill proudly asserted. The clip, which was made during his summer vacation in Vietnam’s capital city, has attracted more than 36,000 views and garnered many positive comments since he uploaded it on You Tube on June 24. “I made the clip just because I wanted to do something meaningful. I came up with the idea after reading news about Vietnam’s East Sea and learning of many young people asking how to protect the country. Besides studying, young people should be healthy,” Bill told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. The overseas student claimed he also wants to encourage Vietnamese youth to enhance their physical well-being by exercising. “I want to establish a fitness club in Vietnam to share my tips that help people stay healthy and get fit,” he added.
