Vinfast unveils concept designs for made-in-Vietnam cars

Vinfast wants Vietnamese drivers to decide how the cars will look

Vietnamese carmaker Vinfast has introduced 20 designs for its sedan and SUV, produced by four world famous car design firms, and asked Vietnamese consumers to choose the best ones.

Vinfast, the carmaking arm of Vietnam’s leading property developer Vingroup, said the concept designs have been exclusively made for the company by four leading car design firms Pininfarina, Zagato, Torino and ItalDesign.

“These are the companies behind the legendary designs of Audi, Bentley, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Rolls-Royce,” Vingroup said on its website on Sunday.

The collection includes ten designs each for the SUV and sedan categories.

Vinfast underlined that ItalDesign and Torino had successfully embedded Vietnam’s iconic terraced paddy fields and the country’s transformative economic growth into their designs.

The carmaker has invited the Vietnamese people to vote for an SUV and a sedan design that best suit local consumers during a two-week contest with a total prize pool of VND1.1 billion (US$48,458).

“This is the first time the Vietnamese people has been consulted for their feedback to help a carmaker choose a design that is in line with world trends and at the same time fits Vietnamese tastes and demand,” Vingroup said.

The poll is available at binhchonmauxe.vinfast.vn between October 2 and 16, where consumers can select their favourite design for each of the SUV and sedan categories.

Vingroup began construction of its car factory, a project worth $1-1.5 billion in the first phase, in the northern city of Hai Phong earlier this month.

The company expects to produce between 100,000 and 200,000 Vinfast-branded vehicles per year initially, including five-seater sedans, seven-seater SUVs and electric motorbikes.

Vinfast has since taken several steps to prove its seriousness, including the appointment of James B. DeLuca, a former executive vice president of General Motors, as its general manager.

DeLuca will be in charge of construction, operations and development of the SUV and sedan segments, according to Vingroup.
