More than 7,050 flights operated by airlines in Vietnam missed their scheduled departure in the year to mid-March, with Jetstar Pacific the most delayed.

Four Vietnamese carriers offered a combined total of 55,251 flights between January 1 and March 15, with 7,059 of them delayed and 337 canceled, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said on Monday.

Jetstar Pacific topped the country’s list of airlines with the most delayed and canceled services.

A total of 2,337 Jetstar services missed their scheduled departures, accounting for 12.3 percent of the carrier’s total flights, while 174 of its flights were canceled.

National carrier Vietnam Airlines outperformed the competition in terms of the number of services, ran a total of 25,494 flights in less than three months. Of these, 2,187 flights, or 8.6 percent, were delayed and 98 were canceled.

No-frills carrier Vietjet launched a total of 19,015 flights, 12.3 percent of which, or 2,337, were behind schedule, second to Jetstar. Vietjet had only five canceled flights during the period.

VASCO, a Vietnam Airlines-run carrier specializing in short-range services, offered the fewest flights but the three-most canceled services.

Of the 2,200 VASCO flights operated, 156 were postponed and 60 were terminated.

The number of passengers recorded at airports across the country rose 16.1 percent in the period year on year to 22 million passengers, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The aviation authority also said no major threats to flight safety were recorded in the year to March 15 thanks to heightened security.
