The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City air route ranks fourth among the top 10 busiest domestic flight routes in the world this year, with 10.6 million seats sold, according to data from OAG, the world’s leading provider of digital flight information, intelligence, and analytics for airports, airlines, and travel tech companies.
The route serves as a strategic air link between Vietnam’s two largest economic and political hubs, spanning approximately 1,200 kilometers.
Local carriers such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines operate frequent flights, filling 80-90 percent of the seats throughout the year.
Average ticket prices range from VND1.5 million ($58) to VND3.5 million ($137) per one-way trip in economy class.
According to OAG, Jeju to Seoul in South Korea remains the most hectic domestic route in the world this year, with 14.2 million seats, up three percent against 2023 but still 19 percent below the pre-pandemic level in 2019.
Two key routes in Japan, namely Chitose-Tokyo Haneda and Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda, are the second- and third-busiest domestic routes globally, with 11.9 million seats and 11.3 million seats, respectively.

The OAG report revealed that no European or North American domestic routes ranked among the top 10 busiest in 2024, despite their high air passenger volumes.
In North America, routes like Vancouver–Toronto and Atlanta–Orlando recorded 3.5 million and 3.47 million seats, respectively.
An industry expert attributed the absence of European domestic routes in the list to Europe’s efficient high-speed rail networks like TGV in France, ICE in Germany, and Eurostar, which offer speeds of up to 350kph and are preferred for short to medium distances.
Meanwhile, Asia dominates the list, occupying eight out of ten spots.
In Asia, high domestic aviation demand due to economic growth, an expanding middle class, vast distances, and dense populations in major cities in countries like China, Japan, India, and Vietnam have made air travel the preferred option.
Although Europe’s domestic routes are absent, international routes like New York-London and New York-Paris remain some of the world’s busiest international ones.
