The tourism sector in Hanoi wrapped up the first five months of 2023 on an upbeat note, with the number of international visitors to the Vietnamese capital city during the period surpassing 1.7 million, the municipal tourism authority said on Thursday.
Hanoi served an estimated 10 million tourists from January to May, improving nearly 54 percent over the same period last year.
Of the total tourist arrivals, the volume of domestic visitors reached 8.4 million and that of international travelers accounted for the rest.
The capital city saw tourism revenue in the five-month period from January to May surge VND37 trillion (US$1.5 billion), or 92.4 percent, against the same period last year.
In May alone, over two million tourists visited the city, including some 316,300 international guests and around 1.7 million domestic visitors.
The city pocketed an estimated VND7.26 trillion ($310 million) in tourism revenue last month.
To woo more visitors to Hanoi, the municipal Department of Tourism and the Department of Transport jointly proposed that the Hanoi administration offer free-of-charge double-decker services to visitors who took city tours during a previous public holiday, which lasted from April 29 to May 3.
The tourism department also collaborated with the management board of the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to offer gifts to visitors to this landmark, which sits in the center of Ba Dinh Square in the namesake district.
Besides, the city will continue to facilitate digital transformation in tourism, including promoting smart travel apps and the use of e-tickets to popular destinations citywide.
