Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen held a reception for Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, member of the Communist Party of Cuba and First Secretary of the Havana Party Committee, on Monday as part of the latter’s visit to the city to seek deeper cooperation between the two localities.
The top Cuban official’s visit will contribute to strengthening the traditional, long-lasting Vietnam-Cuba friendship and partnership, and boosting the ties between Ho Chi Minh City and Havana, said Ho Chi Minh City Party chief Nen.
Over the past 60 years, the bilateral ties have flourished in various fields, he added.
The Ho Chi Minh City Party chief underscored that the southern city is willing to play a pivotal role in bolstering the Vietnam-Cuba cooperation.
The city expects to enhance its partnership with the Cuban side in numerous potential fields such as health, education, hi-tech agriculture, tourism, and people-to-people connection.
Expressing his pleasure of the visit to the city named after late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh, the first secretary of the Havana Party Committee said that Cuba and Vietnam always stand alongside as close friends despite any global uncertainty.
Havana is always grateful to Vietnam for its support for Cuba during the country’s hardships, said Iribar.
Cuba prioritizes its partnership with Vietnam and offers favorable conditions for Vietnamese firms to do business in Cuba.
Havana hopes the two cities will deepen cooperation, the Cuban representative said. He also called on investors from Ho Chi Minh City to tap the Havana market.
Havana is eager to join hands with Ho Chi Minh City to drive up the growth of health, tourism, and hi-tech agriculture.
The Cuban official’s visit to Vietnam marked the 50-year anniversary of late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro’s visit to Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam.
