Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, authorized by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, on Thursday presented the 'For the Cause of Vietnam’s Diplomacy' commemorative medal to Choi Joo Ho, general director of Samsung Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Vu praised Choi for his efforts in expanding Samsung’s investment activities in Vietnam.

He highlighted the company’s contributions to the nation’s socioeconomic growth, particularly to its electronics industry, where Samsung has created hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Deputy Minister Vu also emphasized that Samsung’s strategic steps into hi-tech investment in Vietnam would play a crucial role in the country achieving its key socioeconomic growth goals in the coming years.

Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Choi reaffirmed that Samsung Vietnam would continue to collaborate closely with the Vietnamese government in investment, innovation, and human resource development, strengthening bilateral ties between Vietnam and South Korea.

The event underscored Vietnam’s recognition of the contributions made by South Korean businesses, particularly Samsung, in Vietnam’s integration into the global economy, according to the ministry representative.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception for Choi and his successor Na Ki Hong in Hanoi. During the meeting, both executives affirmed that Samsung would continue to expand its reach into new fields in Vietnam.

Choi, who started working in Vietnam in December 2018, has played a key role in the successful establishment of Samsung's leading Southeast Asia research and development center in Vietnam.

In recognition of his efforts, Choi was awarded the Vietnam Friendship Medal in January 2024 for his positive contributions to enhancing the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and South Korea.

Samsung’s economic impact on Vietnam

Samsung is currently the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with significant projects in Bac Ninh Province, Thai Nguyen Province, and Ho Chi Minh City. The total registered capital of Samsung in Vietnam currently sits at an impressive US$23.2 billion.

Since 2014, Samsung has expanded its supplier network in Vietnam, with 306 local enterprises now providing parts and materials for its operations.

In 2024, Samsung Vietnam reported total revenue of $62.5 billion and exports worth $54.4 billion.

Last year, more than 50 percent of Samsung’s global mobile production came from Vietnam, including some of its most strategic and high-end product lines.
