The Vietnamese team ranked second, together with the U.S., out of the 89 countries and territories participating in the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.
All four Vietnamese students competing in the competition, held in Saudi Arabia from July 21 to 30, bagged medals, including three golds and one silver.
The gold medals went to Nguyen Huu Tien Hung from Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students, Giap Vu Son Ha from Bac Giang High School for Gifted Students, and Tran Dang Khoi from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, all in the north.
The silver medal was secured by Do Phu Quoc from Le Thanh Tong High School for Gifted Students in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam.
The 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad featured the participation of 327 students who engaged in a theoretical exam and a practical test lasting five hours each.
The Vietnamese team followed the Chinese team.
Over the past five years, Vietnam has sent 20 students to the competition, won 20 medals, including 17 golds and three silvers, and maintained its position in the top three.
