More than 800 locals from Ha Lam town in central Quang Nam province’s Thang Binh district on May 29 night besieged and throw stones at local singer Vinh Thuyen Kim, the show organizer and crew, demanding to have their ticket fares back as the show didn’t feature the famed singers as advertised.

The show, called “A special Teen Vong Co (traditional music) liveshow” and put up by locally-based Bao Huy Han Co., was advertised as featuring popular singers including Minh Hang, Bao Thy, Phi Hung and several circus artists and comedians.

Tickets are sold for VND50,000 (US$2) for adults and VND35,000 for kids.

According to Pham Thi Linh, an audience member,  unknown singers took to the stage first, and the booing audiences were told that the famous ones as advertised were on their way.

By 10pm, as soon as the show closed after singer Vinh Thuyen Kim performed three songs, hundreds of audience members besieged and threw stones at Kim, Huynh Kim Thanh, the show organizer and crew. Thanh instantly fled from the scene.

The situation was only allayed with the local police’s intervention.

According to Vo Quang Tu, a local culture official, Bao Huy Han Co. did submit the performing permit issued by the Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and present the list of singers and songs to be featured in that show.

After summoned by the police, Thanh admitted to not featuring the popular singers as advertised.

The culture officials are considering the penalty for Thanh.
