German expert to talk on contemporary art in HCMC

German professor Ute Meta Bauer is set to give a talk on contemporary art at Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and the Humanities later today, Nov 2.

The talk, titled “Other knowledge”, will take place at Hall D.404 at 6pm. Prof Bauer will present and discuss the practice of art worldwide as well as the integration among various art fields, such as films, photos and sounds in today’s contemporary art.

The event is part of the project initiated by San Art, a popular art destination for both locals and expats in HCMC. Under the project, which aims to boost local artists’ inspiration and artistic creativity, eight experts in different art fields such as fine arts, history, literature and architecture will be invited to the exchanges.

Prof. Bauer is currently Dean of Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, London. Since 2005 Professor Bauer has served as tenured Professor and Director of MIT’s Visual Arts Program.

She has worked for over two decades as a curator of exhibitions and has given presentations on contemporary art, films, videos and sounds, with a special focus on transdisciplinary formats.

The professor also serves on a number of editorial boards, juries, and organizing committees of international biennales, such as the Yokokama and Bergen Triennales. She was Chair of the Advisory Board for Visual Arts of the Goethe-Institut, Germany from 2004 to 2008.
