The Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) bull-racing festival of the Khmer people was held for the first time in Hanoi on November 21.
Since early morning, thousands of festival-goers flocked to the event organized at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay district’s Dong Mo.
Six pairs of bulls raced 120m. It took four days to transport the bulls from An Giang province to Hanoi for the competition, the organizers said.
“Through this festival, we would like people in Hanoi and those from other localities to partake in the unique culture of the Khmer people in southern Vietnam” – said Châu Suônl, owner of a pair of bulls in the race.
Initiated in 1992, the Bay Nui bull race is a traditional cultural game of the Khmer people in the southern province of An Giang.
The Bay Nui bull-racing festival is expected to be held again at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism today, Nov. 23.
