Five outstanding short films by expat Vietnamese and foreign directors are set to be screened on Sunday, May 4, at a monthly film screening program in Hanoi.
The films will be screened at 7.30pm as part of the “Chieu bong thang 5” (Director’s Choice) program, which features experimental films and video art and takes place at Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich, Ba Dinh District.
The films, which won awards at the online short film fest YxineFF 2013, are “Mat troi den” (Black sun) by Truong Que Chi from France; “June Ek” by Anadi Athaley from India; and “Ruggero” by Franco Dipietro from Italy.
Also on the screening list are two documentaries, “Das Mongolische mädchen mit der tüte voller glücksgefühle” (A Mongolian Girl with a Bag Full of Happiness) by German director Tatjana Kleut and “Ong noi” (Grandfather) by Vietnamese director Dong Thao.
The films are selected by YxineFF chair Marcus Cuong Vu, who aims to introduce Manzi audiences to the rich, elaborate world and diverse perspectives of short films and documentaries and their directors.
Tickets are available for VND70,000 (US$3.3) and VND50,000 for students, with a free drink available.
Located to the north of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Manzi Art Space is an alluring blend of a cool art gallery and a trendy cafe and bar.
A restored French villa, the space has host many exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and photography. There’s also a small shop selling works by contemporary Vietnamese artists.
2014 YxineFF kicks off in Hanoi, Da Nang The 5th online film fest has kicked off at CJ CGV Vincom Center, 191 Ba Trieu, Hanoi, and CGV Vinh Trung, Da Nang. Themed “Nhung ke mong mo” this year, YxineFF welcomes different kinds of films including feature films, documentaries and cartoons from directors of all nationalities starting from April 1 to June 30.
