Logo of Vietnam’s int’l film, TV exhibition accused of being a facsimile

Logo of Vietnam’s int’l film, TV exhibition accused of being a facsimile

The logo of an international film and TV technology exhibition under Vietnam’s national broadcaster is now alleged to be the crude imitation of another designed by Brandberry Branding.

The Vietnam International Exhibition on Film and Television Technology (Telefilm), organized by the Television Advertising and Services Center (TVAd) under national broadcaster VTV, organized two exhibitions in June 2013 and June 2014 in coordination with Adpex Joint Stock Company (Adpex JSC).

Doan Hai Tu, a Vietnamese designer, recently pointed out in an article the astonishing resemblances between the logo of Telefilm and that designed by Brandberry Branding and currently used by TravelWorld.su, a portal providing tourism news.

He also noted that Travel World’s logo was published on Logolounge.com in its 2010 Logo Trends Report, which was translated and republished on several Vietnamese designing websites, such as idesign.vn.

Meanwhile, Telefilm’s logo was not showcased until the June 2013 exhibition in Hanoi.

Upon a close look at the two logos, local artists were shocked at the startling similarities between them.

Artist Nguyen Tri Phuong Dong observed that the Telefilm logo is an incomplete, awkward replica of Travel World’s, as they both have 10 curved lines, with three of them forming a human’s head.

The effect of the wind blown into the lines is similar from right to left.

The copyist tried to make a few differences by changing the colors and making the lines rugged, which makes them look like film reels.

Veteran artist Uyen Huy noticed that the two logos look exactly the same, though Travel World’s logo is finer in color shades and shapes than Telefilm’s supposed duplicate.

Artist Nguyen The Cuong also remarked that logo designing is quite different from artwork creation.

While artists can be somewhat influenced by others’ styles, ideas count the most in designing a logo, he stressed.

While members of the public are outraged at the fact that Telefilm, an international exhibition which gathers filming and television companies from many countries, is suspected of copying the logo, the event’s organizer has remained silent so far.
