Cuisine - An original

Cuisine - An original "souvenir" for tourists

Saturday, August 27, 2016, 16:20 GMT+7
The show has proved a magnet to travellers and foreign television stations such as Japan’s NHK, Italy’s RAI, Malaysia’s TV3, and an Australian TV series on seas and cuisine titled “Out of the Blue”.
After customers prepare their ingredients, they will be instructed by the restaurant’s chefs as to how to cook purely Vietnamese delicacies such as chả giò (spring rolls), gỏi cuốn (fresh spring rolls), gỏi bưởi (grapefruit salad) and cá bông lau cuốn (rolls with catfish). Customers will also receive meticulous instructions on how to do fruit carving and dish decoration. “The show is a unique ‘memento’ allowing tourists to showcase their newly acquired cooking skills in making purely Vietnamese dishes for their family and friends upon returning to their own countries,” Tô Văn Sơn, Cung Đình Restaurant’s chef shared.
With a philosophy of being customers’ Vietnamese Home, Rex Hotel has launched its “Water puppetry and folk arts” program, which will offer vacationers alluring performances rich in traditional Vietnamese elements, such as the Hue Royal Court Dance called “Lân Mẫu Xuất Lân Nhi” (A Unicorn Gives Birth to Its Baby) - A Masterpiece of The Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. This dance is accompanied by “Nhã nhạc,” a genre of Hue court music which has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage. The dance, which is among the royal family’s most-loved ones, depicts a unicorn giving birth to its young, thus extolling familial bliss and humankind eternity. Another highlight is a “đàn đá” (Lithophone) solo titled “Âm vang đất nước” (The country’s resonance). The Lithophone, which originates from the Central Highlands, is typically made up of more than nine stone thin slabs of various sizes. The performer uses a stick to strike the stone slabs and create a wide variety of tunes. One of the oldest lithophones that have been discovered dates back to more than 2,000 years ago. Another focal point is water puppetry- a genre of long-standing folk theater which came into being based on the country’s rice growing culture. The show will be staged at Vertical Garden- Southeast Asia’s largest vertical garden, which promises refreshing feelings and a relaxing time for tourists.
“In line with Ho Chi Minh City’s robust development trend, REX Hotel will tap more into its MICE clientele in the coming time with its inherent strengths in luxury and high ranking, professionalism and richness in traditional Vietnamese identity” Phan Thành Long, General Director of REX Hotel shared.
