The 2016 German Film Festival will kick off in Hanoi on September 8, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced Tuesday on its website.

The seventh iteration of the annual film festival will begin its countrywide tour in Hanoi at the National Cinema Center at 87 Lang Ha Street, Ba Dinh District.

After Hanoi, the eight highly-acclaimed German films featured at the festival will debut in Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Each of the films has been previously screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and other international fests.

Over 40 screenings will take place during the event, held by the Goethe-Institut Vietnam, each with Vietnamese and English subtitles or voice-overs.

This year, German director, screenwriter, and producer Norbert Lechner is expected to attend the fest and introduce ‘Fortune Favors the Brave,’ staring popular Vietnamese actors Chieu Xuan, Manh Cuong, and Dinh Y Nhung.

Lechner, born in 1961 in Munich, founded the film production company ‘Kevin Lee’ in 1990 and has since produced several award winning children’s films, including ‘Toni Goldwascher’ (2007) and ‘Tom und Hacke’ (2012).

The film festival’s screenings will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from September 9 to September 17 at Cinestar Cinema at 271 Nguyen Trai Street in District 1.

In Hai Phong, film lovers can head to Lotte Cinema at 1 Le Thanh Tong Street from September 13 to 18 to view the German films.

In Hue City, the festival will last from September 15 to 18 and from September 23 to 25 at Dong Ba Cinema at 187 Tran Hung Dao Street.

The festival will also hold screenings in Da Nang from September 16 to 18 and from September 23 to 25.
