Vietnam’s first international ginseng and aromatic, medicinal herbs festival will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 24-26, according to a press conference on Friday.
Le Truong Duy, apprentice deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations, said the festival, which was planned three years earlier, will take place on Le Loi Street in District 1.
Explaining the organization of the event in Ho Chi Minh City, which does not plant ginseng, Duy said the city has many enterprises operating in the ginseng sector.
Vietnam has exported ginseng to many countries and territories but national ginseng brands remain weak in the international market, Duy added
Vietnam is currently a major importer of South Korean ginseng, while the quality of Vietnamese ginseng is also good. Therefore, the event is expected to help turn ginseng cultivation, processing and export into a key sector.
The festival is aimed at bringing international cooperation opportunities in ginseng cultivation, processing and export, Duy added.
Huynh Khanh Thuy Nguyen, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Agricultural Consulting and Support, said the festival will feature four main areas, including those for Vietnam’s Ngoc Linh ginseng, experiencing ginseng, Ho Chi Minh City’s booths, and booths of 20 other cities and provinces.
The fest will also include an area simulating the Ngoc Linh ginseng cultivation.
Besides representatives of Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities, 60 Vietnamese firms and cooperatives as well as many ginseng and automatic and medicinal herb enterprises from Canada, the U.S., South Korea, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia have put their names down for the international ginseng and aromatic, medicinal herbs festival in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event will consist of 32 international booths and 25 booths for local firms to display fresh ginseng and ginseng-based products.
Seminars and cultural and artistic programs will also be part of the festival.
