Female Vietnamese athletes Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai clinched the gold medal in the women’s team poomsae (performance) event during the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships in Da Nang on Wednesday.

The trio secured 8,066 and 8,032 points in their initial and subsequent performances, surpassing their formidable Indian competitors to claim the gold medal for the first time.

On the same day, Nguyen Dinh Toan, Nguyen Van Truong, and Vu Thanh Duong secured a silver medal in the men’s team poomsae event, while Nguyen Thien Phung and Nguyen Thi Le Kim brought home a bronze medal in the mixed doubles poomsae category.

Their achievement came after Vietnamese athletes had already won three bronze medals in poomsae events on Tuesday.

The 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships, which will conclude after athletes compete in kyorugi (combat) from Thursday to Saturday, marks the fourth occasion that Vietnam has hosted the continental competition, with previous events held in 1998, 2012, and 2018.

Following this, the 2024 Asian Para Taekwondo Open is scheduled for Sunday, and the sixth Asian Taekwondo Open Championships will take place from May 20 to 24 at the same venue.
