The Vietnamese Government is ready to create good conditions for Finnish investors to operate in Vietnam, especially in the areas they have a competitive edge, said National Assembly Vice Chairperson Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Ngan made the affirmation when she met with visiting Chair of the Audit Committee of the Finnish Parliament Tuija Brax in Hanoi on April 8. Ngan said that it is a priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy to strengthen and promote its multi-faceted cooperation relationship with Finland. After expressing her high appreciation of Finland’s assistance to Vietnam, she suggested that Finland adjust ODA orientations in line with Vietnam’s needs and concentrate on cooperation in trade policy, energy, clean technology and climate change. Tuija Brax told Ngan that Finland wishes to boost the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries. Finland gives priority to promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam, Brax said. Before the talk, the Finnish delegation had meetings with the State Audit of Vietnam and the NA’s Finance and Budget, and Economic Committees.

At the meetings, the two sides discussed measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation and experience sharing, and agreed to increase mutual visits of the two legislative bodies’ leaders in the future. Finland and Vietnam established diplomatic ties on January 25, 1973 – just two days before the signing of the Paris Agreement that ended the Vietnam War and restored peace in Vietnam.
