Vuong Dinh Hue, chairman of the lawmaking National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, and a Vietnamese high-ranking delegation arrived in Cuba at 2:50 pm on Tuesday (local time), starting an official visit to the country at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart Esteban Lazo Hernandez.

NA Chairman Hue and his entourage were welcomed at José Martí Airport in the Cuban capital city of La Habana by Ana María Mari Machado, Deputy President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba; Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations of the Cuban Communist Party’s Central Committee; Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, head of the Cuban National Assembly’s Commission on Foreign Relations; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung, among others.

This visit takes place at a time when the two nations are celebrating major milestones, including the 60th anniversary of Cuba's establishment of the Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam, now known as the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, the 50th anniversary of late Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz's first visit to Vietnam and to the liberated zone in South Vietnam in wartime.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung said that this is the highest-level visit of a top Vietnamese official to Cuba in 2023.

This is also the longest and busiest visit that a top Vietnamese legislator has made so far, with more than 40 official events in all fields, ranging from politics, foreign affairs to economy, trade, investment and others, Tung added.

During the visit, scheduled for April 18 to 23, NA Chairman Hue will meet with top officials of the Cuban Party and state, as well as complete cooperation agreements between the two NAs.

The top Vietnamese legislator will also give a speech at a session of the 10th Cuban NA on April 19 and attend the 62nd anniversary of the Giron Beach Victory in Cuba.

In addition, he will take part in the Vietnam-Cuba Business Forum, visit the Vietnamese Embassy and community in Cuba, witness the exchange of cooperation deals between the two nations’ ministries, agencies, and localities, and join multiple economic, cultural,and educational events.

This visit reaffirms that Vietnam has always attached great importance to consolidating and fostering special solidarity and friendship with Cuba.

Also, the visit is expected to promote the cooperation between the two NAs.
