Another alarming incident of reckless behavior occurred on Ho Chi Minh City’s metro line No. 1, where a man was seen performing pull-ups on the train’s handrails and ceiling bars, raising safety concerns and prompting criticism from passengers and authorities.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company Limited (HURC1), the stunt took place on Wednesday aboard a train traveling from the Municipal Theater in District 1 to Thu Duc City, a district-level administrative unit of Ho Chi Minh City.

Witnesses reported that the man was treating the train's handrails and ceiling bars as makeshift gym equipment, disregarding the safety of fellow passengers.

Eyewitness T.M., who captured the incident on his cellphone, recounted that the man had begun his dangerous stunts at around 5:10 pm.

Upon spotting a security officer nearby, he quickly moved to another carriage and asked a fellow passenger to film him, but the request was refused.

Despite warnings from passengers about potential damage to the train and possible legal consequences, the man continued his antics, frustrating those present and putting them at risk.

After documenting the incident, M. reported it to the metro management. However, by the time security personnel arrived, the individual had already left the train.

This is not the first time such disruptive behavior has been recorded.

On January 24, another individual was caught on video performing similar stunts using the train’s handrails and metal bars. The footage went viral, triggering public outrage and condemnation on social media.

HURC1 has reiterated that metro handrails are designed to help passengers maintain balance – not for gymnastics or stunts.

Such actions pose serious risks to both the individuals involved and other commuters while potentially damaging public property.

“Under current regulations, disrupting public order on metro trains is a legal violation and may result in administrative fines or even criminal prosecution, depending on the severity of the offense,” HURC1 warned in a statement.

Following the January 24 incident, the agency urged Ho Chi Minh City police to investigate and take action against those responsible.

On January 25, the Facebook account ‘ASHURA - Ultimate Calisthenics Team,’ which represented the individuals in the viral video, issued a public apology following a widespread backlash.

Metro line No. 1 entered commercial operations on December 22, 2024, after 12 years of construction.

To ensure a safe and orderly transit environment, the city’s Traffic Safety Committee has emphasized the need for public cooperation in maintaining proper conduct.

Passengers are urged to respect metro regulations, avoid tampering with equipment, and seek assistance from staff when needed.

Special attention is being given to children under six, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive adequate support from metro staff.

Authorities have also partnered with relevant agencies to launch a passenger survey aimed at gathering feedback and enhancing metro service efficiency.

They are calling on citizens to participate in improving the city’s public transportation system.
