Vietnamese State President meets leaders of other nations in UK

Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong met the leaders and high-ranking officials of some countries in London on Friday on the sidelines of his ongoing visit to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation of King Charles III slated for Saturday.

Apart from being received by the leaders of the Parliament of England, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other officials of the UK, the Vietnamese state leader met with Singapore’s President Halimah Yacob and Vice President of Cuba Salvador Valdes Mesa.

UK appreciates President Thuong’s visit

At the meetings with British officials, President Thuong expressed his pleasure to see the stronger Vietnam-UK strategic partnership.

The remarkable achievements of the two-way ties demonstrated the two governments’ determination and efforts in elevating their ties to a new height, moving toward sustainability and response to global challenges.

British officials affirmed that the Vietnamese state leader’s UK visit played a key role in marking the 50th anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic relations.

Vietnam is one of the UK’s key partners worldwide, especially when the latter is bolstering its strategic partnership with the Indo-Pacific, said British officials.

The two nations will deepen their two-way cooperation in various fields such as defense-security, green economy, climate change adaptation and renewable energy.

President Thuong also proposed the UK help Vietnam with technology and funding, and promote the efficiency of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

The leaders of the British governments and the Parliament of Britain said that they are in favor of the standpoints of Vietnam and Southeast Asia in protecting sovereignty over East Vietnam Sea.

Vietnam’s standpoint is settling disputes at sea by peaceful means based on international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in 1982.

Singaporean president invites Vietnamese state president to Singapore

Speaking at the first meeting with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob since he took office in March, Vietnamese State President Thuong lauded the establishment of the Vietnam-Singapore digital and green economic partnership.

The top Vietnamese official expected the two nations to continue to advance exchanges and foster cooperation at international forums and events, mainly ones held by the United Nations and Southeast Asia.

Singaporean President Yacob also agreed to boost collaboration in training and innovation.

Yacob hoped that the two nations would promote their bilateral partnership based on the success of the Vietnam-Singapore industrial park network and some potential fields such as renewable energy, digitalization and carbon credit.

At the meeting, the top Singaporean official invited President Thuong to visit Singapore.

In response to her invitation, President Thuong said that the would visit the country at a good time.

At the meeting with Vice President of Cuba Salvador Valdes Mesa, Vietnamese State President Thuong said that 2023 is a special year for the Vietnam-Cuba relationship.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of late Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz’s first visit to the liberated zone in South Vietnam in wartime.

The relationship between Vietnam and Cuba is special, intimate, long-standing, and healthy, Vietnam’s state leader underlined.

Vice President of Cuba Mesa believed that the two countries’ partnership and friendship would be strengthened in the future.
