Vietnam, Qatar seek stronger cooperation

Vietnam and Qatar are eyeing closer cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, and tourism, heard a talk between Vietnam Vice-State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Deputy Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Sunday, as part of the former’s three-day visit to the country.

The two leaders of the two nations saw much potential for bilateral partnership, so they reached a consensus on collaboration in holding investment and trade promotion programs and business forums in the coming months.

To make a breakthrough in trade activities, the Vietnamese official proposed the Western Asian nation open its wider door for Vietnam’s seafood, agricultural products, and processed food.

She also proposed Qatar share its experience with and support Vietnam in building a financial hub and a Halal certification center. 

Halal refers to food products and services that adhere to Muslim law.

The deputy amir of Qatar affirmed that his country always prioritizes cooperation in trade, investment, and agriculture with Vietnam. 

He also expressed his desire for the exchange of experience in energy, education, and farming development.

Vietnam and Qatar identified investment as the two nations’ priority in the years to come. 

The two leaders agreed to promote cooperation between investment firms and funds in the infrastructure, transport, seaport, and renewable energy fields.

Vietnam expected to welcome more tourists from Qatar in the coming months, said Vice-State President Xuan.

To strengthen the multi-faceted cooperation, the two leaders agreed to host the third session of the Vietnam-Qatar Joint Committee as soon as possible, and speed up the signing of cooperation agreements.

On the occasion, Vice-President Xuan conveyed Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong’s invitation to Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani to visit Vietnam this year.

She invited the deputy amir to Vietnam at a suitable time, planning to jointly organize the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023.

At a meeting between Vietnamese Vice President Xuan and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani on Sunday, the Vietnamese official proposed Qatar create more favorable conditions for the two nations’ energy firms to boost natural gas imports.

She also proposed diversifying and expanding investment methods, and smoothing the path for the firms from the two countries to join cooperation agreements, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Vice-President Xuan is on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar from May 3 to 8, as part of the 'Developing partnership between Vietnam and Middle East-African nations in the 2016-25 period' program.
