Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan enjoyed Vietnam’s world-famous ‘pho’ and Hanoi’s popular egg coffee together for breakfast in the Vietnamese capital city on Tuesday morning.
Following their meal of beef ‘pho’ at a restaurant along Ly Thuong Kiet Street in Hoan Kiem District, the two ministers visited a sidewalk café to savor egg coffee while taking in the sights of Hanoi.
Tuesday’s morning was the first time Singapore’s Foreign Minister Balakrishnan had tried egg coffee.

As Balakrishnan displayed curiosity over the unique coffee that has drawn the interest of locals and foreigners visiting Hanoi in recent years, Minister Son offered guidance on how to enjoy this beverage while explaining its preparation method to his counterpart.
A cup of egg coffee, which is usually served hot, consists of a creamy whisked mixture of egg yolk, sugar, and sweet condensed milk on top of the hot black coffee underneath.

This warm and personal gathering took place amidst Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long’s three-day visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Tuesday.
The two foreign ministers engaged in discussions regarding matters of mutual interest for their respective nations and delved into the exploration of Vietnamese culture, history, and people.
The two diplomats had a memorable lunch together at Maxwell Food Center in Singapore on July 18 during Minister Son’s first visit to the island country.
