Vietnamese man fined $585 for beating younger sister

A man who resides in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam has been fined VND15 million (US$585) for beating and injuring his younger sister.

The provincial People’s Committee said on Thursday that an administrative fine has been imposed on Nguyen Tan Hiep, 31, for his acts of domestic violence.

Hiep was ordered to cover all medical examination and treatment fees for the victim, who was identified as N.T.Y., 26.

The provincial Department of Public Security has been assigned to oversee Hiep's compliance with rectifying his behavior, as well as ensuring payment of the fine and fees.

According to the provincial department, a conflict broke out between Hiep and his younger sister at their parents’ house at 4:00 pm on February 11, reported Bao Quang Nam (Quang Nam newspaper).

Hiep threw a glass tray to the woman, injuring the latter with an injury rate of three percent.
