Vietnamese Minister of Defense General Phan Van Giang chaired a welcome ceremony for Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Tea Seiha in Hanoi on Monday, and also held talks with the latter with a focus on deeper bilateral military partnership.

A delegation of top Cambodian officials led by General Seiha began a three-day visit to Vietnam from Sunday at the invitation of General Giang.

General Giang expects his Cambodian counterpart’s visit to Vietnam to boost the two nations’ defense ties.

Besides, his trip will contribute to strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries in general and the two ministries in particular.

This is General Seiha’s first Vietnam visit since he took office as defense minister in August.

The top Cambodian official underscored that his trip was aimed at bolstering the two nations’ military ties.

The bilateral defense cooperation has made great strides over the past few years, making it one of the main drivers of their relations.

The two sides reached a consensus on enhancing defense collaboration and elevating military ties to a higher level in the years to come.

In addition, the two nations will boost all-level delegation exchanges and military training, while joining hands to fight cross-border crimes as well as illegal entries and exits.

The two leaders agreed to foster cooperation at multilateral military forums.

Next year marks the 45th anniversary of Cambodia’s victory over the genocidal regime Khmer Rouge (January 7) and the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22), so the two sides will team up with each other to launch a series of meaningful activities.
