Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam held phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

This is the first phone discourse between the two top leaders since Lam assumed the post of the Southeast Asian country’s new Party chief last weekend.

President Putin recounted his beautiful memories during his recent visit to Vietnam in June, thanked his Vietnamese counterpart for a warm welcome, and highly evaluated issues that both sides had discussed during the trip.

The top Russian official believed that Party chief, President Lam will gain new achievements in his position and lead the Vietnamese Party, state, and people on their journey to more success in the years to come.

The Vietnamese head of state expressed his sincere thanks to President Putin and other Russian officials for sending their letters of condolence and a delegation to attend the state funeral of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

That demonstrates the high level of the Vietnam - Russia bilateral ties as well as the leaders’ special sentiments toward the late Party leader, Vietnamese Party, state, and people, he said.
