A sunken ship, with three human skulls on board, has been discovered undersea off Sam Son town, the central province of Thanh Hoa, authorities reported. The discovery was made after many fishing boats reported to authorities that they had hit an unknown underwater object while they were fishing in the area. Local divers tried to lift the shipwreck over the past few days and they were able to raise it within 2 meters of the surface yesterday morning, but not long after it returned to the seafloor thanks to large waves and strong winds. The ship sank many years ago and it has lost its prow, according to divers who handled and tried to lift the vessel at the Lach Hoi sea mouth. The remaining body of the ship is about 10 meters long and most of structures made of iron on have rusted, divers said. Among the debris on the ship were three human skulls, divers reported. The provincial People’s Committee has ordered the local border guard force and waterway police, the Sam Son town authorities, and other relevant agencies to jointly handle the case, said Le Dinh Tho, standing deputy chairman of the committee. The lifting of the sunken ship and the removal of the skulls from it are being carried out in accordance with applicable regulations, Tho said.
