Society -- Massive typhoon Bopha has changed direction in the East Sea and is moving towards an area north of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago at 118-133 kph, said the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center. At 7 pm today, December 8, the storm will lay about 520 km east of Truong Sa. The center forecasts that the storm will gradually weaken and dissipate in the East Sea.

-- Vietnam Airlines will operate 11 direct flights between the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho and Taiwan during the Lunar New Year in January, using Airbus 321 aircraft which can carry 100-130 passengers. There will be 6 flights from Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Taichung to Can Tho and 5 in the reverse direction, with the first flight from Taipei to Can Tho scheduled for January 17. -- Work on an expressway to link Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh and Dau Giay in Dong Nai Province, will be started in mid-December, under a contract signed between the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation and the project’s contractor yesterday. The 55 km-route is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2014. -- Saigontourist yesterday starts the building of a high-class tourist resort at Ban Gioc Waterfall in Dam Thuy Commune, Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province, with a total investment of about VND170 billion. The first-phase construction of the 31-ha resort is expected to be completed in late 2013. The resort is part of the program of cooperation for tourism development between Cao Bang and Ho Chi Minh City.Business -- Despite it being one of the biggest providers in the domestic beverage market, Coca-cola has continuously reported losses in the past 10 years of operations in Vietnam, with an average loss of VND100 billion per annum. Meanwhile, according to HCMC Tax Department, the company’s revenue in Vietnam increased from VND1 trillion ($48 million) to over VND2.5 trillion during the 2007-2010 period. Their sales also increased three-fold during this time.Lifestyle -- Vietnam Fashion Week kicks off at the Hanoi Daewoo Hotel on December 6, with a taste of 19 collections (600 designs) by veterans and emerging designers to be shown during the week. Young designers have made clothes that are highly practical. “I have collected and treated recycled materials for a distinctive look,” design graduate Ta Linh said. The first Vietnam Fashion Week was held in 1998 and has since become the main annual event for the Vietnamese fashion industry.Sports -- Brimming with confidence, the Philippine Azkals will return to Rizal Memorial Stadium today, December 8, for the first leg of the semifinals of the AFF Suzuki Cup against the Singapore Lions. The Azkals played superb defense in their last two games to earn the ticket into the next round. -- UEFA has confirmed that Euro 2020 will take place across a number of cities on the continent rather than in a single country or two host nations. The decision was taken by UEFA's Executive Committee at a meeting in Lausanne on December 6. It is believed matches will be held in 12 or 13 different countries, with the final stages all taking place in one venue.
