-- Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and both sides agreed to boost sustainable development and security for the mutual benefits.

-- Vietnam yesterday announced to establish a naval brigade of gun-missile boats named Brigade 167 belonging to the Second Naval Region.

Society:

-- State President Truong Tan Sang has sent letters of compliments to victim families of the explosion of a firecrackers plant in the northern province of Phu Tho on Saturday. The blast killed 24 people.

-- Doctors of the Children’s Hospital No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City have successfully trained and transferred a new technique of artery endoscopy for treatment of congenital heart problems of child patients.

-- Chairmen of eight districts in Ho Chi Minh City have been warned for their failure in the control of illegal poultry sales in their localities. It may cause an outbreak of epidemics.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has canceled the construction of 424 hydroelectricity projects planned to be built on rivers across Vietnam. The 424 disapproved projects are among the 1,239 hydroelectricity projects previously approved.

-- As of October 15, drivers will not pay road tax at the two highway tax posts Hoang Mai on the National Highway 1 in the central province of Nghe An and Bai Chay in the National Highway 18 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

-- The central Da Nang City has been alert the whole yesterday night to prepare for the landing for a strong typhoon Nari – the 11th storm hitting Vietnam this year. The Nari Typhoon began lashing the central coast this morning, with waves as high as 4-5 meters.

-- Reservoirs of 14 out of 20 hydroelectricity plants in Da Nang have begun letting out water ahead of the coming Nari Typhoon. Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Cao Duc Phat instructed the plants to let out water gradually to prevent ‘double flood’ in the lowlands.

-- Saigon 2 Bridge crossing Saigon River is inaugurated today. It took 18 months to build the 1,450m bridge, which has 6 lanes and is able to sustain the 7th level earthquake.

-- Inspectors at the Vinalines Corporation included that its officials who were arrested caused a loss to the State budget of VND366 billion (US$17.6 million) and embezzled US$1.66 million.

Business:

-- Authorities of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City have proposed the Ministry of Planning and Investment to expand the fields of operations of the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone in District 7. It wants to be allowed to purchase domestic goods for export, import goods for domestic sales, and purchase foreign goods for sales to a third nation.

-- Three internet service providers MobiFone, Viettel, and Vinaphone which hold 97 percent of the local market share have increased monthly subscription fee for Internet 3G to VND70,000 from VND50,000.

-- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development yesterday said it will send more fishing boats to international fishing grounds through the cooperation with regional nations.

-- A new sheet steel mill of China Steel Sumikin Vietnam holding company came into operation yesterday in the southern Ba Ria Vung Tau Province.
