-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just submitted a project to construct a road which leads to the Saigon-Hiep Phuoc port, located in Nha Be District, to the local people’s committee for approval. The project, in the build-operate-transfer (BOT) form, is estimated to cost VND293 billion (US$13.65 million).

Society

-- Ho Chi Minh City's Urban Traffic Management Zone No.1 has proposed that the Department of Transport earmark over VND6.4 billion ($298,257) for growing more trees and upgrading the greenery in several areas in District 7 and District 8.

-- Around 6:30 pm on Friday, a sheet of glass fell off from the fifth floor of an apartment building on Hoang Quoc Viet Street in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The shattered pieces of glass riddled the yard of a restaurant inside the building but no one was hurt.

-- The National Registration Department has suggested the Ministry of Transport revoke the license plates and registration papers of expired automobiles in an attempt to put a stop to the use of such vehicles.      -- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has announced traffic will be blocked between March 30 and May 6 from certain routes in the downtown area. The move is to ensure security in the area which will serve as the venue for a meeting to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Reunification Day, April 30.

-- Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai demanded at a Saturday seminar that officials who lack responsibility in taking care of aid and rescue efforts in times of natural calamities be removed from the steering committees on disaster prevention and combat.

-- Police in Ham Tan District in the south-central province of Binh Thuan on Saturday detained Dang Quoc An, a ranger under the district’s Forest Ranging Office, for allegedly taking bribes.

-- Based on three distress messages from a woman to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s hotline on Sunday last week, a group of reporters traced a ring that forced women to sexually satisfy customers in dim-light coffee shops and successfully came to the victim's rescue on Thursday.

-- At a Saturday seminar addressing a failing bauxite mining project, several experts affirmed Vietnam's state-run coal and mineral corporation TKV has fallen victim to a trap of temptingly low prices offered by Chinese contractors.     Sports

-- The Vietnamese under-23 football (soccer) team stay optimistic about their chances of beating their strong contenders Japan in a match of the qualifiers of the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship, which will take place at 7:15 pm today at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. The match will be aired live on VTV6 channel.
