Politics

-- Phan Trung Ly, chairman of the National Assembly Law Committee, said at a session on Tuesday that a controversial draft amendment suggesting restrictions on the length of Vietnamese full names and the use of only Vietnamese names and not numbers or symbols is an infringement on human and citizen rights. 

Business

-- Nguyen Thanh Hoa, head of the Network and Computer Crime Department under the Ministry of Public Security's Hi-Tech Criminal Prevention Department, said on Tuesday that around 1,000 Vietnamese websites, including those with the Vietnamese government’s domain (.gov), have been attacked by Chinese hackers. In the past five years, Hoa’s unit and other divisions have detected and investigated almost 1,400 incidents involving the use of hi-tech.

-- Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung has admitted that milk in Vietnam has fetched considerably higher prices than those in other Southeast Asian countries. Local prices can be up to over 60 percent higher than those in the region.

-- Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Industry and Trade, recently told the mid-2015 Vietnam Business Forum that electricity fees will be fixed so that they will be entirely subject to the market.

-- The Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology has announced the debut of a pilot project in which fresh lychees are preserved with biological films. The project has been launched for the first time in the northern province of Bac Giang, one of the country’s major lychee-growing areas. 

Society

-- Do Manh Hai, chair of the Long Bien District People’s Committee in Hanoi, told a Tuesday meeting that the district’s leaders will have to apologize in writing to residents and business owners in case of tardiness in paperwork. The move is seen as an attempt to speed up administrative procedure reform and enhance civil servants’ service.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently approved a project to relocate and resettle residents living in places where the nuclear power plants in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan will be built. The relocation project, worth over VND3.2 trillion (US$146.99 million), will see 1,288 households with over 4,900 people relocated.

-- The District 1 police in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday said Pham Van Minh, vice director of the ATM Card Trading Center of the Saigon Bank, has been detained and transferred to the municipal Police Department for further investigation into his alleged fund embezzlement. Minh, 36, had admitted to pinching around VND7 billion ($321,543) from 2006 to August 2013.
