--  Around 10:20 am on Tuesday, an iron bar fell off a construction site of Ha Dong Terminal, which is part of the Chinese-contracted Ha Dong- Cat Linh flyover project in Hanoi. The falling iron bar, which measures over two meters in length, dropped onto and caused damage to a passing four-seat car. The project resumed in mid November last year after reels of steel fell off another of its construction site, killing one and injuring two others.

-- A court in Hoan Kiem District located in Hanoi on Monday sentenced local model Trang Tran to nine months of house arrest for her actions against law enforcement officers. Trang and her friends were in a taxi driving in the wrong direction earlier this year when she was stopped by some policemen and threw contemptuous insults and even an attack on them.

-- Hanoi People’s Committee will start work on a new water plant, to be located in Dan Phuong District, in October this year. The first phase of the plant, to cost VND3.7 trillion (US$162.6 million), is slated for completion in 2018.

-- A Tuesday meeting attended by representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and National Wage Council and labor users regarding a proposition on raising group minimum salary for 2016 ended fruitlessly. Business

-- A seminar was organized Tuesday in Ba Ria- Vung Tau Province, around 120 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, to better harness the capacity of the province’s Cai Mep-Thi Vai port system and develop its logistic system (phát triển logistics). In 2014, the traffic of container vessels at the port system reached less than 20 percent of the designed capacity.

Sports

-- An overhaul worth VND40 billion ($1.76 million) is slated for a piste racetrack as part of the Hanoi-based My Dinh Stadium- Vietnam’s most state-of-the-art sports facility- in October. The racetrack, which has seen serious damage, is not eligible to host local or international athletic events over the past several years.

Lifestyle
