A detailed plan featuring a 108-story skyscraper slated for construction along the highway connecting Noi Bai International Airport with downtown Hanoi was unveiled on Thursday.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi published the detailed 1:500 planning map, highlighting planned construction projects along both sides of the 11-kilometer Vo Nguyen Giap Highway connecting Noi Bai International Airport with the Nhat Tan Bridge.

According to the Department of Planning and Construction of the capital, the construction plan is divided into three phases and will run through a total of nine communes in the Dong Anh and Soc Son districts.

The department added that the highlight of the area will be the Phuong Trach Financial Tower – a 108-story mixed-use construction project fusing modernity and tradition within its architecture – that will be the tallest building in Vietnam upon completion.

Several parks and lakes are also integrated into the plan to improve the block’s appeal.

According to Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, publishing the plan is a crucial step in concretizing the details approved by the prime minister.

Chung said the detailed plan also serves as a forerunner for the development of the northern Red River region and the foundation for fundraising capital from investors.

The plan draws inspiration from the 'Pearl-Chasing Dragon' concept, with the airport highway being the dragon’s body and the dragon’s head facing the Red River and the West Lake.

Covering an area of over 1,800 hectares, the new urban area is expected to become the modern face of Hanoi, featuring its economic potential and abundant land resources.
