-- The People’s Committee of the southern province of Kien Giang on Wednesday awarded a certificate of merit to Doctor Phan Mai Hoa who helped pregnant Le Thi To Quyen to give birth to a baby on a speedboat en route from Phu Quoc Island to the mainland on July 30.
-- The Southern Airports Authority on Wednesday confirmed that it had imposed a VND15 million (US$670) fine on a passenger who slapped a female flight attendant during his flight on August 13. Business-class passenger M.T.B., 46, admitted he had slapped the attendant as he suspected her of stealing his iPhone 6 Plus. The smartphone was later found under his seat.
-- On Wednesday, police in the northern province of Ha Giang said they had captured Phan Mui May, 25, who was identified as the suspect who killed her three children.
-- Le Dinh Son, 26, was hospitalized on Wednesday after he was beaten by residents in the southern province of Dong Nai for stealing dogs. The thief was admitted to the hospital with all his arms and legs broken.
-- An estimated 20.8 million adults above 25 in Vietnam was diagnosed with hypertension in 2015, making up 47 percent of the grown-ups of that age and much higher than the rate of 25.1 percent in 2008, according to a survey lately announced by the Vietnam Heart Association.

-- Vietnam’s catfish exports have reached US$718 million in the first six months of this year, a 5.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Catfish Association.
-- Many investors from Hong Kong want to invest in Vietnam because of its advantages of low-cost labor and construction, Jonathan Choi, chairman of the Hong Kong-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce said during a visit by 70 enterprises from the Special Administrative Region to the Southeast Asian country on August 15 and 16.

-- For years, Nguyen Thi Bich Nhan, a teacher from Vo Van Kiet High School in the south-central province of Phu Yen, has written articles about her poor students and sent to local newspapers in the hope of helping them overcome obstacles and continue schooling.
