Police in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam have arrested a man for murdering another person while they were gambling during the Lunar New Year holiday.

The provincial Department of Police confirmed on Monday it had apprehended Nguyen Canh Ba, 25, who resides in Que Son District, Quang Nam, for murder.

According to preliminary information, Ba and his friend arrived at a location in Thang Binh District at around 8:00 pm on January 27, the third day of the 2020 Lunar New Year fest, to gamble.

A conflict later broke out between the two men and a group of local men, before Ba and his friends were chased down and attacked.

During the quarrel, Ba took out a knife and fatally stabbed Nguyen Chien Lam, 37, while injuring another man before running away.

He headed to the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, about 750 kilometers south of Quang Nam, to hide himself until being arrested by police officers.
