A corporation under the auspices of Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport will spend almost US$95 million building a bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City to neighboring Dong Nai Province in the next four years.
The Nhon Trach Bridge will start to be constructed in 2021, the transport ministry’s Cuu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure (Cuu Long CIPM) said on Friday.
The bridge will link District 9, Ho Chi Minh City to Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai Province over the Dong Nai River.
The Ministry of Transport hopes to shorten the time for traveling from Nhon Trach to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring Binh Duong Province, facilitate the transport of goods between the places, and indirectly ease congestion in the city and pressure on the Dong Nai Bridge.
Currently, a lot of vehicles travel between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province via the Dong Nai Bridge.
The Nhon Trach Bridge will complement an outer belt whose construction has been approved by the Vietnamese government to spur socio-economic growth in eastern and southeastern Vietnam.
The bridge is designed to be 2,209 meters long, 19.5 meters wide and to have six lanes upon completion.
It will have a vertical clearance of 30.5 meters, enabling ships weighing 5,000 tonnes to travel underneath.
Cuu Long CIPM said it would finish building the bridge in 2024 at a cost of VND2,200 billion (almost $95 million).
