— Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held phone talks with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday to discuss bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues of mutual concern on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Society

— Vietnam reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday morning, with the national tally standing at 1,069 cases, with 999 recoveries and 35 virus-related deaths.

— Construction on three component projects of the North-South Expressway, covering the sections of Mai Son – National Highway 45, Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet, and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay, are scheduled to begin on September 30, the Ministry of Transport said Friday.

— The Ministry of Public Security on Friday arrested and started legal proceedings against Nguen Quoc Anh, former director of Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, and two of his subordinates at the infirmary for “abuse of position and authority” in the alleged price gouging of medical equipment.

— Police bust a large-scale cockfight gambling ring on Vo Van Kiet Street in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon.

— Dao Hong Loan was elected as the first-ever female Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Ninh Province on Friday morning.

Business

— Vietnam will for the first time, together with the International Telecom Union (ITU), organize the online forum and exhibition of the ITU Virtual Digital World 2020 from October 20 to 22, the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications announced Friday.

— Vietnam does averagely in consumer empowerment, with the Consumer Empowerment Index reaching 82.96 points, experts said at a conference on the implementation of an ethical business program on Friday.

— The first commercial flight entering Vietnam since border closures and flight restrictions in place in March, operated by national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, from Seoul in South Korea landed at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on Friday afternoon.

— Viettel Telecom on Friday announced the organization of the charity run Viettel Fastest 2020 scheduled for October 4 around Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi to raise money for heart operations for children in need.
