Doctors at a hospital in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai have removed an egg-sized stone from the bladder of a male patient.
University Medical Shingmark Hospital in Dong Nai Province, located in southern Vietnam, announced on Wednesday that its doctors had managed to perform an operation to take a large stone shaped like an egg from the bladder of a 51-year-old man, N.Q.Q.
The stone measured five centimeters in diameter then.
Q. was hospitalized as he suffered severe pain in his lower abdomen and difficulty urinating, doctors said.
Following several tests, doctors detected an abnormally large egg-like stone in his bladder.
Due to the enormous measurement of the stone, it took up to one-third of the bladder.
The stone was as hard as a rock so doctors had to carry out a surgery to pull it out.
The patient then said medical workers had detected a stone in his bladder three months ago but he ignored the diagnosis until it caused adominal pain and painful urination.
Q. is currently making a good recovery from his operation and his bodily functions are now stable, according to Dr. Le Xuan Bao from University Medical Shingmark Hospital.
According to Bao, large bladder stones can cause serious complications for the patient, such as cystitis, kidney failure, bladder cancer, and urinary inflammation.
Doctors advised that people who have difficult urination symptoms should be examined as soon as possible.
Any problems can be detected for early treament as small stones can be treated with endoscopic lithotripsy, helping the patient to relieve pain and recover faster.
