COVID-19 Updates

-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Wednesday morning confirmed 905 local COVID-19 infections, including 666 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, raising the national tally to 35,409, with 9,553 recoveries and 132 deaths.

-- Tang Nhon Phu A and Long Thanh My Wards in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City, where more than 78,000 people are living, will be placed under lockdown for COVID-19 prevention from 12:00 pm on Wednesday.

-- Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son on Tuesday approved the pilot scheme of quarantining asymptomatic COVID-19 patients at home in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- The health ministry on Tuesday decided to shorten the duration of treatment and isolation for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients and the quarantine period for direct contacts and immigrants to 14 days.

-- The sixth and seventh trains of Ho Chi Minh City’s metro line No. 1 reached Khanh Hoi Port in the southern metropolis on Tuesday.

-- The Public Security Department of Hai Phong City on Tuesday evening said that police officers in Le Chan District had coordinated with relevant forces to successfully break up a local football betting racket with a transaction scale of more than VND200 billion (US$8.64 million).

-- New Zealand’s leading fruit export companies in Vietnam have donated more than nine metric tons of fruit to Ho Chi Minh City during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam said on Tuesday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong directed on Tuesday afternoon that companies failing to meet COVID-19 prevention requirements be suspended from operating from Thursday.

-- Mexico on Tuesday reported the biggest daily increase in new COVID-19 infections since February, with 11,137 cases, according to Reuters.

-- President Joe Biden’s nominee to be the next U.S. ambassador to Vietnam vowed at his Senate nomination hearing on Tuesday to boost security ties with Hanoi, according to Reuters.
