COVID-19 Updates

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Health reported 896 COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the national tally to 10,768,844, with 9,866,968 recoveries and 43,092 deaths.

-- Public workers in Vietnam will have a total of four days off from September 1 to 4 to celebrate the upcoming National Day (September 2), the Government Office said.

-- Three women from the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau died of suspected alcohol poisoning after participating in two drinking parties in two days in a row, local authorities confirmed on Monday.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will monitor the body temperature and certain symptoms of people entering the city via air and sea to early detect suspected cases of monkeypox.

-- Six more people, including a former high-ranking immigration officer at the Ministry of Public Security, have been arrested for allegedly taking bribes in the organization of repatriation flights during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

-- A 21-year-old man turned himself in to police officers in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Monday after he had allegedly murdered his wife at their rented house in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday night.

-- The Ministry of Public Security on Monday appointed Colonel Mai Hoang, deputy director of the ministry’s Criminal Police Department, as deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security.

-- About 254 people have been fined and nearly 9,000 others have received warnings for smoking at bus stations, ferry terminals, and wharves in Ho Chi Minh City in the past two years, the Center for Health Consultation and Community Development (CHD) said at a conference on Monday.

-- It is expected to be sunny across northern, central, and southern Vietnam on Tuesday, with the highest temperatures ranging from 31 to 37 degrees Celsius, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported.
