A section of Vo Thi Sau Street in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City subsided, affecting the travel of passers-by, just several hours after workers checked a wastewater drainage system under the section and restored its surface early on Sunday.
Local residents reported that after workers finished the inspection and resurfaced the street, the section subsided and developed cracks.
They voiced concerns that a large hole may form in the area, posing danger to commuters.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper found that the subsided section is about five meters long and five meters wide.
Some positions have subsided as much as 20 centimeters.
A warning sign has been erected in the subsided area to prevent unexpected incidents.

A representative of the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center under the Department of Transport told Tuoi Tre that the center inspected the area to prepare for the relocation of infrastructure to make room for the city’s second metro line project, linking Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Tham Luong Depot in District 12.
The center has notified the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, the investor of the metro line project, about the street section's subsidence and has dispatched staff to regulate traffic and repair the affected area, the representative added.

As the wastewater drainage system under the street is old, workers had to remove the street’s surface to check the position of the drainage system, according to Vu Van Vinh, director of the management board of the second metro line project.
The management board has required the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center to quickly undertake corrective measures.
