Four people were hospitalized as a drunk car driver hit a motorbike and ran away, then continued to collide with another motorcycle and a different car in Hanoi on Wednesday evening.
Police in Cau Giay District, Hanoi said on Thursday morning that they are keeping Trinh Van P., hailing from northern Bac Ninh Province, in temporary custody for the investigation into the case.
The 41-year-old man, who is residing in Cau Giay District and working at a university in the capital city, crashed his car into a motorbike steered by D., a resident of Thanh Xuan District, on Nguyen Chanh Street at around 9:25 pm on Wednesday.
P. then drove his car away and bumped into another car with D.D.T., a resident of Thanh Tri District, behind the steering wheel and a second motorcycle carrying N.V.D., living in Dong Da District.

After the two collisions, D. and her daughter, who was riding pillion, D.D.T., and N.V.D. had to be taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
All of the four vehicles were damaged.
Test results showed that P. was driving with a level of alcohol concentration exceeding 0.897 milligrams per liter of breath.
According to Vietnamese law, the mere presence of alcohol in a person’s body already amounts to a violation, while an alcohol level of 0.4 milligrams per liter of breath or 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood would result in the most severe punishments for drunk driving.
