Commuters were stuck in a traffic jam for multiple kilometers along two major roads in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City during rush hour due to traffic light malfunction on Friday night.
The sheer volume of slow-running traffic started crowding both the carriageways of Ung Van Khiem Street at around 6:45 pm.
Many motorbikes encroached on the opposite lane, making the traffic jam more serious.
The cause was determined as the traffic light failure at the intersection of Ung Van Khiem and Nguyen Gia Tri Streets.
A local said that congestion often occurred at this intersection during rush hour, but Friday’s jam was even worse.
Traffic police officers and electrical engineers arrived at the congestion area at 7:15 pm and managed to ease the congestion by 7:45 pm although vehicles remained relatively crowded.
