A flight from Thailand with over 100 passengers on board arrived in Da Nang City on Sunday, making it the first to bring international visitors to the central Vietnamese city in the 2023 Lunar New Year.

Local tourism authorities held a ceremony to welcome the Thai travelers on the first day of the Year of the Cat at the international passenger terminal of the Da Nang International Airport.

Flight VZ964 of Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet from Bangkok, Thailand landed at the Da Nang International Airport on Sunday morning.

During the ceremony, visitors were able to enjoy the lion dance performance and other welcoming activities. The organizers also presented tourists special gifts, including coupons to visit tourist attractions, restaurants, and to enjoy local specialties.

According to airline operators, the total number of flights to Da Nang for the Tet holiday from January 20 to 26 is projected at 768, with more than 98,000 passengers. This includes 444 domestic flights and 344 international flights.

On this occasion, local government and tourism businesses have offered a variety of events and activities, including artistic light decorating on the Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, the fire-breathing show on the Dragon Bridge, and the Han River cruise experience.

A spring festival is also being organized at My Khe beach by the management board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang's tourism beaches.

At the festival, visitors may take pictures with Tet-themed backdrops, learn how to cook banh chung, and make traditional jams and sweets with craftsmen at the food booths.

Beside the above-mentioned activities, tourists visiting Da Nang during the Tet holiday can also explore Bien Dong Park, Lang Ong Park, Ha Khe Square, the photo exhibition on Vong Canh Hill, and Ban Co Summit.
