Police in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City said on Monday that they are verifying the authenticity of a recent Facebook post describing random attacks of injection needles on men in a residential area.
Nguyen Nhu Thanh, deputy chairman of An Loi Dong Ward in Thu Duc City, which is home to the Sala residential area mentioned in the Facebook post, confirmed the investigation on Monday.
According to the Facebook content posted by a user named L.K.T., two unknown women riding a motorbike stabbed his younger brother’s body with an injection needle while he was going for a walk in the residential area.
The women also pressed the same needle against another man.
It was not clear when the two events took place.
T.’s younger brother is currently taking 28 days of post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV infection and is in stable health condition, T. added.
Meanwhile, the police unit of An Loi Dong Ward has not yet received any official report regarding the case, but officers are going to invite the owner of the Facebook account in for questioning at the station as the next step, according to Thanh.
“We need proof and witnesses,” Thanh said.
“In case of a fabricated incident, the Facebook user will be handled in accordance with the law.”
The official added that local police officers will increase patrols soon.
T. said in another Facebook post on Monday afternoon that he reported the needle attack to the local police in person and deleted the former Facebook post, which garnered more than 8,000 reactions, over 15,000 comments, and some 7,000 shares as of the same day, over negative opinions about him and his family.
