Authorities in Son Tra District in Da Nang City, central Vietnam started dismantling all illegally-built business facilities on Son Tra Peninsula in the district on Monday.
Fifty-eight unlawfully-constructed buildings on the peninsula would be demolished, Hoang Cong Thanh, vice-chairman of the Son Tra District People’s Committee, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
Among them were two restaurants near a military base.
Thanh said that the first dismantling drive targeted 10 illicit constructions, with most of them being restaurants and pubs.
The others will be handled after the upcoming national holidays of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day ( May 1).
Many restaurants and pubs have mushroomed along the main routes to the peninsula, according to Tuoi Tre reporters' observation.
The land use of these business facilities is unlawful.
The owners of the illegally-built facilities received administrative punishments and were told to dismantle them, but they disobeyed the order and intentionally delayed the demolition, according to the Son Tra People’s Committee.
After an announcement on the dismantling was issued, the power at these illegally-built facilities was shut off.
In 2016, Da Nang City Inspectorate issued a conclusion on violations in forest protection, management, and use activities on Son Tra Peninsula.
The inspectorate listed 68 unlawful constructions.
Since then, the district has called on the owners to dismantle 10 illicitly-constructed buildings, while 58 others failed to follow suit.
As such, the authorities must take coercive measures to pull down the rest.
